How to Fix a Golf Cart Flat Tire
The day you have a flat tire is never a good day. This includes getting a flat tire on your golf cart. Does this mean that you have to haul your golf cart to the nearest Fort Pierce golf cart repair shop? Not necessarily! There are a number of ways you can fix a flat tire yourself.
You can replace a golf cart flat tire in three easy steps! Here is what you will need to repair a golf cart tire:
- Floor jack
- Socket
- Ratchet wrench
- Replacement tire
Step 1: Use the Floor Jack
First, bring the golf cart to a flat surface if possible. This will allow you to place the small floor jack correctly under the vehicle frame without it leaning or rolling. Place the jack under the axle and not the cart body.
Step 2: Remove the Nuts
Do not raise the golf cart right away though, because you need to remove the lug nuts first. Use a right sized socket and ratchet wrench to loosen the nuts. Do not remove them completely. Raise the golf cart so that the flat tire is barely off the ground. Then, remove the lug nuts and be sure to keep them safe. Nuts are known to roll off under the cart and be difficult to find when the time comes to put them back on!
Step 3: Fix the New Tire
It's now time to put on the new tire by fixing it on the spokes. Replace all the lug nuts and screw them on one by one. You do not need to tighten them right away. Lower the jack until there is just enough pressure on the new tire to prevent it from slipping.
You will next want to use the socket to tighten the lug nuts. Make sure that you do this correctly in order to prevent the new wheel from coming right off. You are all finished and can now lower the cart all the way until it rests equally on all four wheels. Lastly, replace the wheel cover.
